We brought the SSB radio from the Brandaan and Toine will build it in the SeaQuest in the winter of 2015. During our Atlantic tour the SSB radio proved to be very useful. On the one hand as a cheap alternative to the internet things like getting weather information (tickets and gribfiles), sending and receiving emails, and putting a message on our site by email. On the other hand by the possibility of social contact with fellow sailors and shore stations during longer sailing trips. Perhaps in the coming years there will be an affordable option for internet matters. But for social contacts on the way, the SSB radio is indispensable.
The installation is quite a job: radio, antenna amplifier, modem, ground plates, deck throughput, insulated backstay. And a lot of cabling.
