Whitsun weekend on the Oosterschelde

In the Whitsun weekend we go on the Oosterschelde. That feels like a rediscovery of a beautiful sailing area. It has been a while since we have been there; the last couple of years we have mainly spent the weekends on the Grevelingen. The nice thing about the Oosterschelde is that it is still wonderfully sheltered, but on tidal waters that are connected to the North Sea. The distances are a bit longer and it is less crowded. We are going to do that more often in a weekend!

We start Saturday a bit later in the afternoon after we have decorated Marinthe's room. We sail in four hours from Bruinisse through the lock via the Mastgat/Keten and the Zeeland bridge to Burghsluis, with a breeze from the north, force 3-4 Bft. Burghsluis is a nice club harbour and there is still a good spot for us at the F-steiger. After dinner we play a new card game: Boerenbridge. Nice family evening.

On Sunday we sleep late and make a walk to the Oosterscheldekering. The weather is lovely and sunny. On the way we practice for Eline's speaking Cambridge exam. She will have it next week and it is quite spicy! When the tide is with us we leave and sail back to Bru in 4 hours. It is light wind from the right direction ... good weather to try out the genaker. It's going great!
Once again we get to know the SeaQuest a little better. We anchor in the Crab Creek near St Annaland. We had never been there in the 9 years that we sailed past it regularly. An excellent anchorage! Also fixable for repetition!

On Monday morning we went back to Bru, where we could go through the lock before the hustle and bustle. We left on time because we met up with Inge and Mark in Hellendoorn and Enter. Such a weekend of sailing is a real pleasure; life is so wonderfully easy on the boat. Everything you need is there.
